Description
A postal wormer resistance test kit for sheep, cattle and goats. It checks whether a wormer has worked, by comparing worm egg counts before and after treatment (a faecal egg count reduction test).
Wormer resistance is widespread, and a smaller drop than expected in the egg count after treatment can mean the worms on your farm are resistant to that wormer. Knowing this helps you choose a wormer that works and avoid wasting money on one that does not.
How it works: collect fresh faeces from the same group of animals using the spoon provided, before you worm, and post the first sample to us the same day. Then worm the animals as normal, and 7 to 14 days later (depending on the wormer used) collect a second sample from the same animals and post it back. Try to post Monday to Wednesday. Results appear in your account within 24 to 48 hours of the lab receiving each sample. Use one kit for each group of animals and each wormer you want to check.
Please note the test only works if the first count is high enough. If the egg count before treatment is low, a reduction cannot be measured reliably.
