Description
A kit for counting worm eggs is available to assess lungworm presence. If a lungworm infection is suspected, a faecal sedimentation test can be conducted in a laboratory to confirm the diagnosis. This method effectively isolates the heavier lungworm eggs from the faecal material for microscopic examination. Since the parasite seldom reaches the stage of laying eggs in horses, it is generally more effective to test donkeys or mules, which are believed to be the primary hosts of the infection, rather than the symptomatic horse.
